VICTORVILLE, California (February 19, 2017) – Two children were killed and five people were injured in a traffic collision at Mojave Drive and Amethyst Road on Saturday night, according to The Daily Press.
The accident involving two vehicles was reported at roughly 8:37 p.m.
As per the article, a 1996 Ford Taurus was going east on Mojave Drive, approaching the intersection at Amethyst Road when a 2003 Hyunda Elantra, headed north on Amethyst, attempted to make a left turn onto Mojave.
The Elantra drove directly into the path of the Taurus, and the two collided.
The two children, who were rear seat passengers in the Elantra, died at the scene. They were identified as 12-year-old Pedro Basua Jr., and 10-year-old Teresa Basua, both from Adelanto.
Another juvenile, an 11-year-old boy, and two adults in the Elantra were taken to the hospital for treatment. The two 18-year-old men in the Taurus were also hospitalized after the crash.
All patients suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate degree. The Press Enterprise added that an 18-year-old woman from the Taurus was unharmed.
The incident remains under investigation.
