Fatal Traffic Accident Near Cherokee Road
Merced County, CA (October 19, 2022) – Pedro Saldana, a 36-year-old man, died following a traffic accident that occurred on Henry Miller Avenue.
2 Semi Trucks Collided on Henry Miller Avenue in Merced County
The Merced Sun-Star News reported Saldana, of Cantua Creek, was behind the wheel of a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia heading west on Henry Miller Avenue. When Saldana approached the area near Cherokee Road, he crashed into the rear trailer of an easbound 2022 Freightliner Cascadia.
Preliminary investigation revealed the right tires of the 2022 Freightliner drifted onto to the south shoulder of the roadway. For this reason, the 32-year-old man lost control of the big rig and ended up veering into the opposite lane.
Officials said the driver of the 2020 Freightliner attempted to avoid collision but still hit the back of the truck.
When rescue teams arrived at the site, they found the driver of the 2020 Freightliner unconscious. Paramedics later pronounced the driver dead. The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Pedro Saldana, of Cantua Creek.
No other injuries were reported in the accident. At this time, detectives continue to investigate exactly how and why the crash happened on Henry Miller Avenue in Merced County.
