Pedro Vergara, 27, Killed in Garden Grove Crash at Woodbury and Libby
GARDEN GROVE, CA (May 9, 2021) – A DUI crash at Woodbury Road and Libby Lane killed Pedro Vergara in Garden Grove.
The Orange County coroner’s office identified the 27-year-old Garden Grove man as the victim of the fatal accident which occurred on Saturday night.
The incident happened on May 8 when Pedro Vergara was driving a Toyota Camry in Garden Grove. He was waiting at a red light at the intersection of Woodbury Road and Libby Lane.
At the same time, a white Nissan Titan was traveling at a high rate of speed east on Woodbury. Police said the Nissan then struck the rear of the Toyota.
Speeding Drunk Driver Hits Another Car, Flees on Foot
The impact forced the Camry into the intersection where it slammed into two parked cars and a retaining wall. The Orange County Register and KTLA News reported that the wreck took place at around 10:54 p.m.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and pronounced Pedro Vergara dead at the scene. They took his passenger, a woman, to the UCI Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the speeding male driver abandoned the Altima and fled on foot. Police located him and determined he was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the Toyota.
Authorities soon arrested and booked the suspect in the Orange County jail pending charges. The fatal Garden Grove DUI crash is still under investigation.
