5 Injured After 4-Vehicle Crash on Ethanac Road in Perris
PERRIS, Calif. (June 4, 2018) — Dominick Olivas, 20, of Menifee was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a violent, 4-vehicle, hit-and-run collision Saturday night on Ethanac Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Five people including Olivas were injured in the collision.
The crash took place 8:45 p.m. on June 2, between Murrieta Road and Hull Street in Perris. Olivas and a juvenile passenger were traveling westbound on Ethanac Road when he tried to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone. His vehicle was broadsided by a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that was headed eastbound on Ethanac Road. The impact caused the Mercedes to be torn in half.
The vehicle also collided with a second vehicle, a silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, that had been headed westbound in the same direction as Olivas. The driver of that vehicle lost control and overturned on the shoulder of the roadway. A fourth vehicle that was driving eastbound on Ethanac Road crashed into Olivas vehicle as its driver was unable to avoid the vehicles and also crashed into the Mercedes.
Both Olivas and his juvenile passenger suffered minor injuries in the collision. Two people who were in the white Toyota and the driver of the silver Toyota all suffered moderate, non-life threatening injuries. The driver who was in the fourth vehicle did not appear to be injured.
Police say that Olivas and his passenger fled the scene of the collision, but were found near McLaughlin Road and Hull Street a short time later.
Police suspected alcohol was a factor and Olivas was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and causing injury, Hit and Run with injury, and Child Endangerment.
Olivas was treated for his injuries at a nearby hospital before being booked at Cois Byrd Detention Center on the above charges.
Witnesses may contact Deputy J. Cail at the Perris Station by calling (951) 210-1000, or by email at [email protected].
