PERRIS, California (December 8, 2015) — A 60-year-old Perris man was killed Monday night when his bicycle was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross Perris Boulevard against a red traffic light.
He has been identified as James Pica by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
The fatal crash was reported at 6:13 p.m. An 18-year-old driver identified as Daniel Duque of Perris was driving his white Honda CRZ northbound on Perris Boulevard when he struck the bicyclist.
The report says the bicyclist was hospitalized with major injuries, but later died. The teenager driving the car remained at the scene and was questioned by police. The Perris Police Department is investigating the crash, but preliminary reports indicate the bicyclist may have ran through a red traffic light. There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
