UPDATE: Brendan McCarten, 23, of Perris ID’d as Victim Killed in Crash
PERRIS, California (March 13, 2015) — A fatal head-on collision between a dump truck and a black 2014 Volkswagen Jetta sedan was reported Friday morning at El Sobrante and Mockingbird Canyon roads in Riverside County, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
The fiery crash was reported about 4:52 a.m. when a person called 911 to report they heard the accident and saw smoke and fire near the intersection. Upon arrive, CHP officers noted the dump truck was pulling a trainer with melted tires and required a tow truck. One of the vehicles kept flaring up with flames after firefighters had put out the fire, the report said.
CAL FIRE/Riverside Fire Department responded to assist those who were injured and one person died of their injuries at the scene. Additionally, the Department of Environmental Health was sent to the scene to clean up a 65-gallon diesel spill.
