PETALUMA (July 24, 2017) – A woman and her 2-year-old child were injured in a pedestrian accident at 4th and D streets Monday morning, according to Press Democrat.

As per the article, the mother was pushing her son in a stroller and had just entered the crosswalk when they were struck by a 2014 Hyundai SUV at around 11:30 a.m.

The impact caused the child to be thrown roughly 30 feet from the point where the toddler was hit while the mother was thrown about 10 feet, officials said.

Both the mother and her son were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.

Preliminary investigations revealed the Hyundai driver identified as Lynda Jacobsen, 57, of Petaluma, was had been traveling 10 to 20 mph prior to making a left turn. Jacobsen gave a statement saying she did not see the pedestrians prior to the collision.

Meanwhile, the mother victim involved and injured claimed the Hyundai did not appear to have its turn signal on indicating that she was going to make a turn.

Petaluma police officials will continue their investigation.

Based on this news report, the driver of the Hyundai will likely be held responsible for causing the injury accident. However, the officials are still looking into several factors at this time—was the involved driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Did excessive speed or distracted driving play a role? Was the driver negligent in any other way? Once the case investigation is over and liability is determined, the injured victims may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault driver.
