Deadly Hit-and-run Crash; DUI Suspect Arrested
CLOVIS, Calif. (June 2, 2023) – Peter Binz, 33, of Clovis, was struck and killed Wednesday night in a bicycle versus car accident on Herndon Avenue in Clovis.
The driver involved, Jonathan Petty, 36, of Clovis, was arrested on DUI charges after the fatal hit-and-run crash near Locan Avenue.
The traffic accident occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31st, according to FOX26 News and a press release by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Dept.
The driver of a white 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck struck the victim from behind as he allegedly failed to maintain his vehicle and veered to the right.
DUI Suspected in Crash on Herndon Avenue
Peter Binz was thrown off his bicycle and onto the roadway. Paramedics responded and located the victim lying on the ground. However, despite life-saving efforts the cyclist died at the scene. The Fresno coroner later released his name.
Meanwhile, investigators say that Jonathan Petty failed to stop and went home after the crash. They later located him about a half mile from the crash scene and determined Jonathan Petty was intoxicated.
Police arrested the suspect and booked him into the Fresno County Jail on charges of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter. He is being held on $82,000 bail.
Furthermore, the suspect has a previous misdemeanor DUI conviction from August 8, 2022 and was reportedly on probation at the time of the latest crash.
