RANCHO MIRAGE (April 2, 2018) – An elderly bicyclist was killed after a traffic collision along Bob Hope Drive on Monday afternoon, according to KESQ News and KMIR.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as 74-year-old Peter Harvey of Victoria, British Colombia, Canada.

As per the reports, deputies said Harvey was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a white Chevrolet truck on northbound Bob Hope Drive. The truck was initially headed north on Bob Hope when for an unknown reason it entered the bike lane and hit the cyclist.

Meanwhile, the operator of the truck stopped and cooperated with the authorities. Bob Hope Drive was closed in both directions between Ginger Rogers Road and Victory Drive for about four hours following the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Wrongful Death Lawyer

A forensic examination of the bicycle and truck involved, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will help investigators determine which party ultimately caused the accident. Authorities will thoroughly look into how fast each motorist was going, whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved, whether or not there were any mechanical issues with the bike or the truck, whether or not one of the parties involved was distracted or simply did not yield to the right of way individual. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicle and the bicycle such as point of impact, their final resting positions, skid marks, and gouge marks.

Once the investigation is over and it proves that a negligent party has disregarded the safety of others and has led to the death of another individual, the surviving family of Mr. Peter Harvey may have the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit seeking a recompense for the funeral costs, loss of future income and loss of love and companionship.
