Based on the information provided in this report, it remains unclear which party will ultimately be held liable for the collision. Authorities will thoroughly look into how fast the driver was going, whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved, whether or not there were any mechanical issues with the truck. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the truck such as point of impact, final resting positions of each vehicle, skid marks, and gouge marks.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, Peter Howe may be subject to a personal injury lawsuit against the driver of the semi-truck pending the findings of the investigation. Personal injury victims are entitled to compensation for damages including medical expenses and hospital bills, lost future income, and pain and suffering.
