The crash involving two vehicles was reported to CHP at 5:03 a.m. near Blossom Drive.
Police officials reported the three cars involved included a 1997 Mercedes and a 2006 Chevy.
The Mercedes was driven by Mario Behena, 26, headed eastbound on Highway 138 as he veered into westbound lanes for unknown reasons and triggered a collision with the Chevy driver, Robert Norbryhn, 36, of Runnings Springs.
Mr. Robert Norbryhn suffered moderate to major injuries and was transported from the scene to a local area hospital. His condition has not been updated.
Behena sadly sustained fatal injuries and did not survive the collision while his passenger, Rebecca Ramirez, 25, was also injured and taken to the hospital.
The collision prompted both directions of Highway 138 to temporarily close as traffic was diverted to the shoulders.
No further details were released.
