2 Dead in Highway 180 Wrong-way Crash
FRESNO, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2019) — Phia Vang, 48, a 26-year veteran of the Police Department, died in a crash with a wrong-way driver Monday night on Highway 180.
Update: Cameron Pryor, 33, of Fresno, ID’d as suspected wrong-way driver.
The crash took place about 5 p.m. shortly after a driver in a 2014 Chevy Silverado pickup truck turned from DeWolf Avenue onto Highway 180. The wrong-way driver entered the freeway driving eastbound in the westbound lanes where he collided with a total of six vehicles, the last was driven by Vang which he struck head-on.
Vang, who was off-duty at the time, died in the crash along with the wrong-way driver. People in other vehicles suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision, but there were no further details.
Police are investigating whether or not alcohol and drugs were factors.
They closed down Highway 180 between DeWolf to Smith Avenue to conduct the investigation and cleanup.
