Phong Khuu, 62, Killed in Fountain Valley Crash at Los Coches and Sunn
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA (November 15, 2022) – Phong Khuu was killed after a DUI crash at Los Coches Street and Sunn Avenue in Fountain Valley.
Police identified the 62-year-old man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Tuesday morning.
The incident happened when Phong Khuu was riding a bicycle east on Sunn Avenue, approaching Los Coches Street, in Fountain Valley.
At the same time, a gray Honda CRV made a U-turn in the area. Police said in the process, the car struck the bicyclist in the intersection.
DUI Driver Hits Bicyclist
The Orange County Register wrote that the accident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found the rider down on the ground.
Phong Khuu soon died at the scene of the crash. Meanwhile, police determined that the driver of the Honda was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the cyclist.
They arrested the man on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing injury. Officers forced the area of Los Coches and Sunn to shut down for a time following the incident.
The cause of the Fountain Valley crash is still under investigation.
