At Least 1 Killed in Truck Crash on Kumeyaay Highway Wednesday
Pine Valley, CA (May 12, 2021) – A fatal accident involving a big rig occurred Wednesday evening on Interstate 8, also known as Kumeyaay Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
Primary reports indicated a semi truck drove off the roadway for an unknown reason Wednesday evening. The big rig careened away from the traffic lanes, and ended up plowing through the metal and concrete divider of the bridge near Buckman Springs Road.
Officials said the incident left approximately 30 feet of damage to the structure.

Shortly after 7:50 p.m., emergency teams arrived at the location and rendered aid to all possible victims. The California Highway Patrol log later confirmed one person sadly died as a result of the wreck. Authorities continue to withhold the identity of the deceased pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
Several factors surrounding the deadly big rig accident in Pine Valley remained unclear. At this time, investigators handling the case continue to determine whether another vehicle played a role in the horrible crash.
