Fatal Crash on 80 Freeway Involving Big Rig Truck
PLACER COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 11, 2018) — At least one person died Tuesday morning when a pickup truck sideswiped a big rig truck and crashed on the westbound Interstate 80 Freeway at Nvack Road in Gold Run near Lake Putt, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at 5:45 a.m. The red Ford pickup truck went off the roadway and into a ditch after the collision. A helicopter was set to land at a nearby Nyack Shell station. The coroner was called due to at least one death reported at the scene.
The pickup truck had four blown out tires and was towed away for evidence by Five Star Tow. There was also a hazmat environmental cleanup at the scene because one of the involved vehicles had an external tank that ruptured.
