5 Killed in Point Mugu Crash on Pacific Coast Highway
POINT MUGU, CA (November 6, 2022) – A head-on crash killed several people on Pacific Coast Highway near Point Mugu.
According to The Ventura County Star and CBS Los Angeles, the tragic accident took place on Sunday morning. Officers reported the wreck at around 4:30 a.m.
The incident happened when a 2011 Toyota SUV was going south on Pacific Coast Highway, north of Mugu Rock. At the same time, a 2020 Subaru sedan was traveling north.
For an unknown reason, one of the cars then crossed the center divider. In the process, the two vehicles collided head-on in the Point Mugu area.
2 Cars Collide
The California Highway Patrol said the Toyota and the Subaru came to a stop facing the wrong-way. Both burst into flames as a result of the collision.
The four people riding the SUV and the man driving the sedan ended up trapped insider their cars. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and freed the trapped occupants from the wreckage.
All five victims soon died at the scene of the incident. The names of the deceased parties have not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP forced Pacific Coast Highway to shut down for hours in both directions following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Point Mugu crash is still under investigation.
