Motorcycle Cop Crashes into Spectators on Parade Route
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (Dec. 9, 2024) — Twelve people were injured Saturday at the Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade when a police traffic officer riding a motorcycle crashed into spectators lining the parade route.
The motorcycle versus pedestrian collision occurred around 6 p.m. on Dec. 7th, according to NBC 4 News. The parade, which is in its 32nd year, attracts roughly 80,000 spectators.
The police officer was riding with fellow offices demonstrating crowd control techniques when he lost control of the bike and crashed into people along the parade route.
Paramedics responded and rushed the injured to local hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The police officers and several children were among those hurt in the motorcycle crash.
Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills posted on Facebook that he feels terrible about the accident.
The California Highway Patrol is heading up an investigation into the crash.
