SANTA MARIA, California — An on-duty Santa Maria police officer sustained injuries after a driver of a stolen vehicle crashed into his police car on Western Avenue in the morning of February 16.
The Noozhawk reported the accident which occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Initial investigation claimed a white Honda Civic coupe, which had been reported as stolen from Santa Maria, was spotted by a patrol officer who initiated a pursuit at the area near Boone Street.
In an attempt to evade authorities, the suspect driving the stolen Honda ran through red lights and stop signs. At one point, the eastbound suspect ran a stop sign at an intersection while making a narrow turn and ended colliding with an officer driving southbound on Western Avenue, as per the article.
Paramedics responded to the site shortly after the incident and pronounced the officer sustained minor injuries. The injured officer was further taken to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Officials identified the involved Honda driver as 24-year-old Anthony Ray Herrera. He was arrested on suspicion of stealing a vehicle and evading arrest.
