Police Officer Dale Rush Injured in Visalia Crash on Highway 198
VISALIA (August 3, 2020) – A police officer was badly injured after a traffic collision along Highway 198 on Monday morning.
Authorities identified the wounded victim as Visalia Police Department Officer Dale Rush, who has 19 years of service and is assigned to the Patrol Division.
The incident began when officers were conducting a traffic stop for an investigation on a vehicle pulling a trailer on Highway 101 at the Ben Maddox off-ramp.
According to reports by the Your Central Valley and ABC 30 News, at the same time an alleged inattentive driver was going westbound.
Police Officer Hit by Inattentive Driver in Visalia Monday
The male motorist failed to stop for slow-moving traffic and lost control of his vehicle. He then struck the guardrail and went back across both westbound lanes.
Officials said the front of his car collided with the trailer which ultimately hit Rush. The accident took place shortly before 8 am.
Paramedics responded to the scene and found the officer suffering from moderate injuries as a result of the crash. They transported him to the hospital and listed him in stable condition.
Authorities are still investigating what prompted the driver to be distracted when the incident occurred.
