Officers Harminder Grewal and Kapri Herrera Critically Injured in Highway 99 Crash
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA (August 23, 2021) – A crash critically injured Officer Harminder Grewal and Officer Kapri Herrera on Highway 99.
Officials identified the two Galt police officers as the victims of the fatal collision which took place on Sunday morning.
The incident began when Officer Harminder Grewal and Officer Kapri Herrera were traveling north on Highway 99 in Sacramento County. At the same time, a Dodge Ram pickup truck was going south.
For a unknown reason, the Dodge crashed through a median concrete barrier and veered into the northbound lanes. In the process, the Ram hit the patrol vehicle head-on.
Car Crash Near Dillard Road
The California Highway Patrol said the two cars crashed north of Dillard Road. Firefighters arrived and then extricated the two police officers from the wreckage.
Harminder Grewal and Kapri Herrera sustained major injuries as a result of the Highway 99 crash. Paramedics rushed them to the UC Davis Medical Center and listed them in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Dodge died at the scene of the collision. The two passengers of the Ram, 26-year-old men, ended up hospitalized with moderate injuries.
The Sacramento Bee and ABC 10 News wrote that the accident occurred on August 22 at about 4:30 a.m. Meanwhile, officers forced all lanes of Highway 99 to shut down for several hours following the wreck.
The cause of the Sacramento County crash is still under investigation.
