5 Injured in Crash with Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Vehicle
SAN JOSE, Calif. (April 29, 2024) — Five people were injured Sunday after a Santa Clara County sheriff’s car hit an SUV during a police pursuit of a stolen car at King Road and Commodore Drive in East San Jose.
The two-vehicle collision occurred just after 12:30 p.m. on April 28th, according to The Mercury News.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office reported the collision occurred while deputies were trying to stop a speeding driver in a stolen vehicle.
The 24-year-old suspect led police on a pursuit from Berryessa Road and North Capitol Avenue. The driver failed to stop despite efforts by sheriff’s deputies and the police cruiser struck a Toyota SUV along the pursuit route.
Paramedics responded and located four people with minor injuries in the SUV who were taken to a hospital.
Meanwhile, the suspect collided with another deputy’s vehicle and he was arrested after hitting spikes placed in the roadway to stop him.
Police arrested the suspect on multiple charges including evading a police officer and possession of stolen property, the report said.
