POMONA, California (May 8, 2015) — One person died Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash in the 200 block of West Arrow Highway, between North Garey Avenue and Mariposa Street, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
Marissa Vasquez, 32, of Pomona was identified as the woman who died at the scene of this crash.
About 10:45 p.m., CHP officers reported that Vasquez was driving an SUV that was rear-ended by a stolen 2014 Mercedes-Benz driven by a suspected drunken driver. One of the drivers hit a power pole and an electrical transformer. Michael Gardner, 37, of Pomona, attempted to flee the scene of crash, but was arrested after being treated at a local hospital.
Gardner faces DUI, vehicular manslaughter and grand theft auto charges.
The crash closed down the roadway in both directions while police conducted an investigation into liability for the accident.
“This is a tragedy for the family of this person as they cope with such a tremendous loss,” said Attorney James Johnson. “My condolences go out to them at this difficult time.”
