Car and Truck Crash on Highway 111 in Imperial
IMPERIAL (July 15, 2017) – Two people, including 36-year-old Porifirio Perez, were hospitalized following a traffic collision on Highway 111 and Keystone Road Tuesday afternoon, per KYMA.
On July 11 just before 4:00 p.m., Porifirio Perez reportedly was going through the intersection when at the same time a semi-truck drove against a red light.
Perez, of El Centro, was not able to hit his brakes on time to avoid the collision.
The impact forced Perez’s vehicle to spin out of control while the truck flipped to its side. Perez was ejected from his car, as he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
CHP news release said he was taken to a hospital following the incident for treatment of sustained major trauma including fractured right arm and pain to his face and torso.
Meanwhile, also injured in the incident were the passengers in the truck who received minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital. Their names were not disclosed.
The truck drivers were checked at the scene and released.
California Vehicle Code states a driver facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a marked limit line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, the injured parties may be able to pursue a personal injury claim against the semi-truck driver. The victims may seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost future income, and experienced pain and suffering.
