Pregnant Injured, Gives Birth Via Emergency C-Section After Hit by DUI Driver
DATE OF COLLISION: Saturday, August 25th
August 27th, 2018- According to the Fresno Bee, an injurious DUI crash left a pregnant woman and two others injured after their vehicle was struck by a drunk driver over the weekend at York Street and Morton Avenue.
Authorities report ed that collision to have occurred around 4:30 p.m. between a Honda and a Buick.
Porterville police officials have preliminarily determined that the driver of the Honda, Carlos Ortiz, 27, of Porterville, ran through a stop sign plowing into the Buick occupied by the unidentified pregnant woman and two others.
One person in the Buick was seriously hurt and rushed to Sierra View Med Center to the ICU. That individual’s condition has not yet been updated at this time.
Meanwhile, the pregnant woman sustained minor injuries and was rushed to a hospital and forced to go through with an emergency C-section to give birth. She and the baby are expected to be ok.
The third person in the Buick was initially treated on scene by medical staff personnel before electing to decline transported via ambulance to a hospital.
Porterville police officials confirmed that Carlos Ortiz had been under the influence as his blood alcohol level was roughly .17. He had also been driving with a suspended license after previously receiving a DUI.
Ortiz has since been placed under arrest and is being jailed at Tulare County Jail.
