At roughly 5:25 p.m., the driver of a Ford Mustang had been traveling southbound before attempting to perform an illegal U-turn directly into the path of a Ford Fusion triggering a crash. The Ford Fusion then collided with a northbound Toyota Highlander.
Moments later following the crash, the Mustang caught fire and fortunately a passing motorist was able to remove the man inside the Mustang who was suffered major injuries. The 49-year-old Mustang driver was airlifted to Palomar Hospital, where his condition had not yet been updated Tuesday morning.
Both of the drivers of the Fusion and Highlander were moderately hurt and transported by ambulance to Pomerado Hospital.
Authorities disclosed that the Mustang driver man is suspected of being under the influence as the smell of alcohol permeated from the man.
Per the report, a long portion of Highway 67 remained shut down for a long while as authorities perused the scene.
