Pregnant Woman Killed in Fresno Hit-and-run Crash
FRESNO, Calif. (August 3, 2020) — A 19-year-old woman who was seven months pregnant died Sunday night by a hit-and-run driver as she crossed Swift Avenue in a crosswalk in northwest Fresno.
The woman was walking with family and friends near Marks Avenue about 10:30 p.m. when an SUV driven by Kenneth Carter, 32, struck her as she tried to get out of the roadway.
The northbound SUV was driving at high speed down Marks Avenue when the vehicle hit the pregnant woman.
The woman and her unborn child both died at the scene, but her name has not been released.
Kenneth Carter initially drove away from the crash scene in the rented SUV, but roughly 25 minutes later he called the Fresno Police Department moments later to turn himself in. He told authorities that he thought he struck an animal.
Kenneth Carter was booked into the Fresno County Jail for felony hit and run, vehicular manslaughter, and driving on a suspended license.
