Pyong Yun Song, 60, Killed in Nipomo Car Accident on Highway 101 Near Willow
NIPOMO, CA (September 2, 2021) – Pyong Yun Song was killed after an excavator fell onto her car in a Nipomo accident on Highway 101 near Willow Road.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 60-year-old Nipomo woman as the victim of the fatal incident which occurred on Wednesday.
The accident began when Pyong Yun Song stopped her 2008 Cadillac Escalade on the northbound Willow Road off-ramp in Nipomo.
At the same time, a 2014 Peterbilt semi-truck towing a lowboy trailer loaded with an excavator was going north on Highway 101. For an unknown reason, the right front tire of the big rig blew out.
Excavator Falls Onto Car
CHP said the truck spun out of control and drove off the east side of the road. The excavator became dislodged, went over the side and fell down on top of the Cadillac.
Debris from the impact struck a stopped 2016 Mazda in front of the Escalade. Its driver, 53-year-old Glendale resident Eliodora Cardenas, ended up unharmed.
Meanwhile, the driver of the semi-truck sustained minor wounds following the collision. The Nipomo accident is still under investigation.
