Victims of Highway 4 Crash are Identified

COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. (August 15, 2023) – Quang Tran, 37, and Hang Nguyen, 30, were among six people seriously injured in a deadly, head-on crash Friday night on Highway 4 in Calaveras County.

Others hurt in the crash include Chi Tran, 72, and No Nguyen, 72, along with two children ages 2 and 4 years old, according to the Union Democrat.

The six people were traveling in a 2020 Lexus that was hit head-on by a driver in a 2020 Honda.

Three people from the Honda all died in the two-vehicle crash around 7 p.m. on August 11th, just west of Vista Point and Copperopolis, according to the California Highway Patrol and KCRA3 News.

2-Vehicle Crash in Calaveras County

CHP officers responded to the scene of the crash. They determined that Jose Luis Garcia Jr., 25, of San Mateo, was traveling eastbound in the Honda on Highway 4 at a high rate of speed. The Honda veered into westbound traffic where he hit the Lexus.

All three occupants from the Honda died at the scene. They were Danielle Bologna, 62; her daughter, Francesca Bologna, 25, both of San Francisco; and Jose Luis Garcia Jr.

Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the six people from the Lexus to nearby hospitals for treatment of moderate to major injuries.

The driver of the Lexus, Quang Tran, 37, along with Ava Tran, 2; and Ana Tran, 4, were all treated for moderate injuries at Doctors Medical Center.

Furthermore, Hang Nguyen, 30, suffered major injuries and was transported to Doctors Medical Center, but two other Lexus occupants, Chi Tran, 72, and No Nguyen, 72, were transported to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of their major injuries.

Finally, the CHP is investigating what led up to the crash, but so far DUI is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
