Woman Killed in West Covina Pedestrian Accident
WEST COVINA, Calif. (July 8, 2022) – Rachel Vargas, 40, of Pomona, died in a West Covina pedestrian accident early Tuesday morning on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in West Covina.
The Pomona woman died at the scene of the crash, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner
The California Highway Patrol received a call about the collision at 12:41 a.m. on July 5th. The caller told them a woman wearing dark clothing was walking in the slow lane of the eastbound I-10 freeway near the Holt Avenue on-ramp.
Minutes later, a witness told CHP dispatch operators the woman was down near the right shoulder in front of a white pickup truck with a camper shell.
Additionally, the witnesses told authorities they saw a man get out of the truck, walk around and get back into the vehicle before he drove away.
Police and paramedics responded to the scene of the crash, but sadly the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
Meanwhile, the CHP issued a SigAlert at about 1 a.m. and closed the eastbound Nos. 4 and 5 lanes to conduct an investigation.
