Deadly Crash on Indio Boulevard
INDIO, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2023) — Rafael Chavez, 23, of Coachella, died in a fatal, two-vehicle crash on Indio Boulevard happened Sunday afternoon, just east of Flower Street.
The collision occurred around 2 p.m. on Sept. 17th in Riverside County, according to a report by KESQ News 3.
One of the vehicles knocked down a power pole during the crash.
The Indio Police Department responded to the scene and learned that the driver of a black pickup truck allegedly made a U-turn into the path of an oncoming a Jeep. The driver in the Jeep reportedly lost control and collided with the power pole.
Sadly, the Jeep’s driver, Rafael Chavez was thrown out of his vehicle. He suffered major injuries and was transported the person to a hospital where he later died at 2:57 p.m. the same day, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
Meanwhile, the pickup truck driver was also hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
The case remains under investigation.
