
MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (May 26, 2023) — Rafaela Salazar-Ruiz, 27, of Moreno Valley, died Thursday in a pedestrian accident involving a Riverside County Sheriff’s patrol SUV at Cactus Avenue.
The collision occurred around 3:54 a.m. on May 25th near Heacock Street and the entrance to the March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The young woman was reportedly crossing Cactus Avenue in an area where there is no marked crosswalk. The oncoming sheriff’s patrol vehicle hit the woman in the roadway.
Paramedics responded, but the pedestrian died at the scene within minutes of the crash. The Riverside County Sheriff Coroner identified Rafaela Salazar-Ruiz as the woman who died.
It’s unknown if there were any witnesses or if the SUV had dashcam footage of the collision.
However, the CHP is heading up the investigation into liability for the Moreno Valley pedestrian accident.
