RANCHO CUCAMONGA, California (April 4, 2014) — The drivers of a semi-tractor trailer truck and three vehicles collided early Monday morning in an accident in the westbound lanes of the Interstate 10 freeway near Archibald Avenue, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
About 7:10 a.m., CHP officers and Ontario Fire Department emergency workers responded to the collision with possible injuries, the report said. Police say the big rig truck, a white sedan, a gold, older model Toyota 4Runner SUV and a gold Nissan Pathfinder were involved.
Police issued a Sig Alert for the crash which was blocking the middle lanes of the freeway, specifically the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 lanes, the report said. The 4Runner was blocking the Nos. 3 lane and appeared to be leaking an unknown fluid in the lane, the report said.
Paramedics responded, but the report did not state whether there were injuries or if this was merely a precaution. Police say there was debris scattered over a distance behind the crash showing there was significant damage to some vehicles. Several tow trucks responded to remove disabled vehicles from the scene.
“The average driver is certainly no match for a big rig truck in a collision on our busy freeways,” said Attorney James Johnson. “These trucks, which can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds, are 20 times heavier than the average car. Hopefully no one was seriously injured in this crash.”
