Driver Fell Asleep Hit Pickup in 210 Freeway Car Accident

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, California (July 9, 2014) – A pickup truck overturned Wednesday morning after being struck by another driver who told  police he fell asleep behind the wheel on the westbound Interstate 210 Freeway at Carnelian Street, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.

About 6:47 a.m., CHP officers responded to the collision blocking the HOV and No. 1 lane of the 210 Freeway.  A silver Toyota Tacoma flipped over and landed on its roof in the HOV lane

Driver Jerry Sanchez told police his blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck hit the other pickup truck causing it to overturn on the freeway. Sanchez pulled over onto the right side of the freeway after the crash.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the 2-vehicle crash to assist those who were injured.

Police are heading up an investigation into the accident.
