Randy Estrada, 60, Killed in Fresno County Hit-and-Run at Shields and Howard
FRESNO COUNTY (July 3, 2020) – An elderly driver killed after an alleged hit-and-run crash at Shields and Howard avenues on Thursday has been identified.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office said 60-year-old Randy Estrada, of Kerman, died following the accident on July 2.
Authorities determined that the incident began happened when Estrada was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer east on Shields Avenue, approaching the intersection of Howard Avenue.
At the same time, a 2001 silver Toyota Corolla was traveling south on Howard. For an unknown reason, the Toyota then struck the left rear side of the Chevrolet.
Rollover Car Accident at Shields and Howard Avenues Near Kerman
The Blazer ultimately flipped over at least three times as a result of the collision. The SUV reportedly had the right-of-way at the intersection.
According to reports by The Fresno Bee and Your Central Valley, the California Highway Patrol affirmed that Estrada was thrown from his vehicle upon impact.
Paramedics responded and pronounced Estrada dead at the scene. Officials reported the fatal accident at around 6:30 p.m. near the Kerman area.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the motorist in the Corolla did not stop to render aid and took off southbound on Howard. The tragic crash remains under investigation.
