Compton Man, 39, Killed in Rollover Crash is Identified
BAKER, Calif. (March 29, 2022) — Raul Negrete Gontes, 39, of Compton, died early Saturday in a Baker rollover crash on the Interstate 15 Freeway.
The two-vehicle collision happened at 3:08 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2022. The motorists collided in the northbound lanes of the I-15, near Halloran Springs Road in the unincorporated area of San Bernardino County.
A 31-year-old Victorville man driving a 2019 Dodge Charger allegedly collided with the back of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Raul Negrete Gontes. The Dodge was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed in the no.1 lane prior to the collision. Upon impact, the Tahoe overturned and veered across the center median. The Dodge also went over the median and landed on its wheels.
Paramedics responded to the freeway crash, but sadly the Compton man died at the scene. The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified the victim on their website.
Meanwhile, CHP officials noticed the driver from the Dodge exhibited signs of alcohol impairment. They subsequently arrested him on drunk driving charges and for causing injury.
Finally, the CHP Barstow station is heading up the investigation.
