Man, 20, Killed in Crash on Fort Tejon Road
PALMDALE, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2023) — Raul Amado Vasquez, 20, of Palmdale, died early Thursday in a pedestrian accident in Palmdale on Fort Tejon Road near Avenue S-8.
The deadly crash occurred at around 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 29th, according to the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
A driver reportedly struck the young man who was walking in the left northbound lane. The vehicle was traveling at roughly 60 mph when it struck the victim, the Antelope Valley Press reports.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner identified the victim as Raul Amado Vasquez.
The driver told investigators they tried to swerve, but could not avoid hitting the young man.
Vasquez was thrown into the northbound left lane of Fort Tejon Road, police said.
The driver stopped and attempted to help the pedestrian and someone called 911 for help.
Despite efforts by the Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, the young man died at the scene of the crash.
Authorities do not suspect alcohol was a factor for the motorist.
Investigators closed down a portion of Fort Tejon Road between Pearblossom Highway and 47th Street East to work on the case and determine fault for the crash.
