Ray Billings Jr. Killed in Horrific Hit-and-run Crash in Hemet
HEMET, Calif. (July 23, 2018) — Ray Billings Jr., a 64-year-old man riding a mobility scooter, was run over and killed Sunday night by a suspected hit-and-run driver who was speeding eastbound down Florida Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.
The victim was struck and dragged several hundred feet before his body was reportedly cut in half and fell off the vehicle. the fatal crash took place in front of Quality Inn, between Lyon and Palm Avenues.
The incident took place about 9:11 p.m. last night. The pedestrian was reportedly not in a crosswalk when he was struck by the suspect’s speeding vehicle. Unfortunately, he died at the scene.
The driver of the blue Hyundai did not stop after hitting the victim. Witnesses saw the suspect, described as a black male in his 20s, behind the Hemet Valley Mall. Later the suspect’s vehicle was seen on Calle Nogales, roughly a mile from where the collision took place. The suspect fled on foot and left the damaged vehicle in the middle of the street. He was seen attempting to flag down a ride on Devonshire Avenue. Police located the suspect and he was arrested and taken to the Hemet Police Department.
Traffic Accident Investigation
At this time, we do not know all the criminal charges that will be filed against the driver suspected of killing this man, but it does appear that they will be held responsible for the death of this man.
