Rebecca Whiteman, 67; and Nash Whiteman, 7, Injured in Highway 101 Car Accident
CLOVERDALE (March 4, 2019) – A 12-year-old boy and his grandmother were injured after the vehicle they were riding on crashed down a wooded embankment in Highway 101 in northern Sonoma County Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, they received reports of the accident on the highway just south of Cloverdale at around 8:25 in the morning.
The responding officials found a crashed vehicle down a 30-foot embankment with three of the victims still inside the car. One victim, identified as Rebecca Whiteman, 67, was able to crawl out of an open window, climb the hill and call for help from the passing motorists.
The child, identified as Nash Whiteman, was seated in the back with his grandmother, Rebecca, when the wreck occurred.
1 Killed in Cloverdale Car Crash on Highway 101
The driver, identified as 47-year-old Anthony Wilkinson, lost control of the SUV and steered right off the east side of the highway. The vehicle then plunged down in the embankment and hit a tree, killing the female passenger in the front seat.
The younger Whiteman had two broken legs, his grandmother suffered six broken ribs and Wilkinson sustained major injuries. They were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for immediate medical care.
The police are still investigating the crash but reportedly said that alcohol and drugs are not suspected factors in the accident.
