Rebekah Kencke, 41, Badly Injured in Mendocino County Crash on Highway 101
MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA (August 13, 2022) – A DUI crash on Highway 101 badly injured Rebekah Kencke in Mendocino County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 41-year-old woman as one of the victims in the wreck which took place on Friday.
The incident happened when Rebekah Kencke was riding as a passenger in a maroon Kia Sedona going north on Highway 101 in Mendocino County.
At the same time, a gold Toyota Tundra was traveling south. CHP said the Toyota then crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane directly into the path of the Kia.
In the process, the Tundra slammed head-on into the Sedona. The two cars crashed just south of Dora Creek and north of Leggett.
2 Cars Collide
The Times Standard and KYMKEMP wrote that the accident occurred on August 12 at about 7:11 p.m. Rebekah Kencke, of Arcata, sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel rushed her to the Jerold Phelps Community Hospital for further aid. Another occupant of the Kia, a 15-year-old girl, survived the collision with major injuries.
Paramedics took her to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Sedona, 44-year-old Joe Kencke, and a 17-year-old girl with them did not sustain any wound after the incident.
The man driving the Toyota ended up hospitalized with major injuries. CHP determined that he was under the influence when he hit the other vehicle.
Meanwhile, officers forced the northbound side of Highway 101 to shut down for a time following the crash. The wreck is still under investigation.
