RED BLUFF, California (May 2, 2016) — A semi-tractor trailer truck driven by Alejandro Patino, 27, of Stockton, struck the back of a broken down vehicle driven by Thaovao Vang, 30, of Wisconsin, resulting in a major injury fiery crash Monday on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway per the ChicoER.
The collision which took place at roughly 11:20 a.m. occurred when the Chevy vehicle Thaovao Vang was driving began experiencing mechanical issues before breaking down and stopping in the center divider.
As Vang’s vehicle sat in the center divider, it was suddenly struck by the big rig driven by Alejandro Patino causing a fire to instantly trigger upon impact.
Vang and two of his passengers, Xor Vang, 69, and Ze Vue, 41, suffered major injuries and were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where the were last said to have been in critical condition, per the ChicoER.
Patino and one other victim also suffered injuries.
The investigation is ongoing at this time to determine the at-fault party.
