REDDING, California (June 24, 2016) – A 54-year-old Redding woman struck by a trash can which was hit by an alleged DUI driver Thursday morning has been identified as Beverly Weber, according to Record Searchlight.
The incident was reported at Safeway gas station on East Cypress Avenue near Churn Creek Road just after 8:45 a.m.
As per the article, Redding police said 68-year-old Thomas Kelly, of Redding, drove his 2015 Honda sedan into the gas lanes and accelerated while approaching the pumps.
Kelly then turned sharply, knocked a concrete garbage can into Weber and struck another car. The gas pumps were not damaged.
Police affirmed that Weber was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.
Meanwhile, Kelly was determined to have been under the influence of narcotics at the time of the collision. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury.
