1 Dead, 4 Hurt in Redding DUI Crash
LOCATION: Redding, CA
DATE OF INCIDENT: Wednesday, March 22nd
(March 22, 2018)- According to the Record Searchlight, a deadly DUI collision left one person dead and four others injured Wednesday evening at the intersection of South and California streets in downtown.
According to Redding police officials, two vehicles were involved in the wreck at 8:15 p.m. including a 1972 2-door Chevy and a 2017 Toyota pickup truck.
Per the article, the driver of the Chevy identified at Larose Kelly, 41, of Garberville, had three passengers in her vehicle headed westbound on South Street before running through a red light and being broadsided by the Toyota traveling south on California.
Following the collision, one of Kelly’s passengers tragically suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the two other passengers of Kelly were trapped requiring extrication efforts via the fire department. Both victims who remain unidentified were injured and taken to local area hospital.
The driver of the Toyota pickup suffered minor to moderate injuries. It was unclear, however, whether or not the motorist was taken away by ambulance to a hospital or sought out his own medical help.
Larose Kelly Arrested for DUI
According to the article, Kelly was also shaken up as a result of the crash. She was given a breathalyzer test in which she failed leading resulting in the 41-year-old woman being placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
The Redding Police Department will be the agency handling the investigation.
Redding Wrongful Death Lawyer
Based on this news report, there is viable evidence that the driver of the Chevy sedan, Larose Kelly, will be held solely responsible for the death of one passenger and injuries to the others. While police have confirmed that the suspect was under the influence and ran a red light, there are still several unanswered questions here which include whether or not excessive speed or distracted driving played a role? We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, the surviving family of the fatal passenger victim as well as those injured in this collision including the driver of the 2017 Toyota pickup will have the right to pursue wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits against the liable motorist. Victims involved in these accidents may seek compensation for damages including funeral costs, medical expenses and hospital bills, lost future income, pain and suffering, and loss of love and companionship.
