The accident happened at around 8:00 p.m.
Preliminary reports stated that a 63-year-old Norma Earl-Horton, of Redding, was driving her white 2007 Volkswagen Beetle through the intersection at a green light.
To her surprise, a man appeared trying to cross westbound on the roadway, as mentioned in the article. The elderly man was not able to avoid collision with the pedestrian.
The force from the impact was significant, leaving the pedestrian lifeless at the scene.
Per Action News Now, the victim was later identified as Matthew Lee Ross Sr., 45, of Redding.
Investigators assigned to handle the case continue to gather more evidence before pronouncing closure and citations for the incident.
