Skateboarder, 27, Killed in Redlands DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Colton Avenue
REDLANDS (February 18, 2018) – A skateboarder was killed after an alleged DUI hit-and-run crash on Colton Avenue Saturday night, according to The Press Enterprise.
The accident took place at about 9 p.m.
As per the article, police said a 27-year-old man on a skateboard was struck by a Nissan Altima which was traveling at a high rate of speed on Colton Avenue.
The force of the collision caused the man to be thrown onto the hood of the car before falling to the side of the road. The skateboarder was left with severe injuries as the driver of the Nissan fled the scene.
The victim was then transported to a hospital, where he later died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the suspect, 40-year-old Dustin Michael Garrett, ultimately slammed into a blue van and a Prius while fleeing. The motorist in the Prius sustained minor wounds upon impact.
Garrett continued driving, hit a parked car near Lawton Street and fled on foot. He was found at Empire Bowl near Colton and New York Street.
The Riverside man was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run and was booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga with a bail set at $250,000.
