Man, 39, Struck and Killed at Arroyo Avenue and Sequoia Street
HESPERIA, Calif. (July 30, 2026) — Reginald Matthews Jr., 39, was the pedestrian struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash in Hesperia at Arroyo Avenue and Sequoia Street, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
The Hesperia Sheriff’s Station and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the crash scene around 1:28 a.m., on Monday, July 27, 2026.
They located the pedestrian down in the westbound lane of the roadway with major injuries near the intersection of Arroyo Avenue and Sequoia Street.
Unfortunately, the man did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives working on the case determined Matthews was walking west on Sequoia Street. He was near the north edge of the roadway when a westbound vehicle struck him down. The driver, who is required under California law to stop after a collision, fled the scene. The suspect failed to stop and assist the injured man or contact authorities.
Meanwhile, investigators are working to find out the make and model of the vehicle involved and are hoping the public can reach out to help them with any information about the collision or suspect.
