Police Chase Ends in Deadly Collision at Rialto and Cactus Avenue Thursday
Rialto, CA (February 11, 2022) – One person died, and another suffered injuries following a traffic accident that occurred in the area of Rialto and Cactus Avenue Thursday.
According to an article published online by KTLA5 News, 26-year-old David Smith was driving an allegedly stolen vehicle. Police spotted the suspect near the intersection of Merrill and Spruce avenues. Earlier reports indicated a motorcycle officer attempted to pull over the Infiniti Q50. However, Smith accelerated and took off.
Officers launched a pursuit at about 12:25 p.m.
When the chase approached the crossing at Rialto and Cactus Avenue, the suspect ran a red light. Smith collided with four other vehicles. The force from the impact resulted in fatal injuries to the suspect. Responding paramedics pronounced David Smith dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, at least one innocent party from the four vehicles sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. The name and age of the victim remained undisclosed pending confirmation.
The Rialto Police Department is the agency handling the investigation.
