RIALTO: Juvenile is Fourth Bicyclist Killed This Week in Southern California
Boy Killed in Bicycle Accident on Riverside Avenue
RIALTO, California (December 30, 2014) – An unidentified Hispanic male juvenile riding a bicycle was killed Monday night in a car accident in front of 335 S. Riverside Avenue, near South Street, according to a report by the Press Enterprise.
About 5:40 p.m., Riverside police and paramedics responded to the accident and transported the victim with major injuries to a local hospital where he later died.
Police interviewed the driver at the scene of the crash, but there were no further details. No alcohol consumption is suspected.
According to a report by bikinginla.com, the young victim is the fourth bicyclist to be killed in Southern California in the last three days and the 85th fatality here this year.
Indeed, a 36-year-old Vinh Tran of Westminster was killed Saturday in a car accident at the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Heil Avenue in Fountain Valley; Israel Cerda Contreras, 68, of Riverside was also killed Saturday in a car accident in front of 3300 Central Avenue in Riverside; and an 81-year-old cyclist was killed Monday morning in the 1000 block of E. Lynwood Avenue when he was hit by a driver.
“My condolences go out to the families of those killed in these tragic car accidents,” said Attorney James Johnson. “Riding a bicycle has become no less dangerous in Southern California even despite this year’s new Three Feet for Safety law being in place.”
