Man Killed in 3-Vehicle Crash on 10 Freeway is Identified
SAN DIMAS, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2021) – Richard Arena, 64, of Pomona, died Sunday morning when a vehicle crashed into him and his disabled vehicle on the Interstate 10 Freeway.
The fatal San Dimas crash happened near Kellogg Drive about 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A driver in an oncoming 2010 Ford Fusion struck Richard Arena as he was exiting his disabled 2013 Toyota Corolla on the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway. Meanwhile, a second driver also struck the victim on the freeway, but its driver fled the scene.
Prior to the deadly crash, the Toyota and a 2002 Honda Accord collided in the No. 2 lane. The Toyota became disabled in the middle lane following that collision, the CHP said.
Paramedics responded to the scene at 4:48 a.m. They transported an injured 19- year-old man who was driving the Ford Fusion to Pomona Valley Hospital. The teenager suffered lacerations to his head and left hand, CHP officials said.
Meanwhile, investigators with the CHP’s Baldwin Park office are asking witnesses to contact them at 626-338-1164.
Our thoughts and prayers extend to the family of Richard Arena.
