5 Dogs Attack, Kill a Man Walking in Selma Neighborhood
SELMA, Calif. (August 2, 2022) — A fatal dog attack in Selma left a 59-year-old man dead Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Goldridge Street and Balboa Street.
The deadly attack occurred just after 1 p.m. on July 31st, according to a report by the Fresno Bee and the Selma Police Department.
Richard Barry, also known as Hutch, was attacked by five dogs while walking in the neighborhood. The Selma man was walking in the area when the dogs apparently escaped from a nearby home and mauled him.
The man’s brother, Ronny, and his sister-in-law, Teresa Barry, were driving by and witnessed the attack, according to ABC 30 News. She stopped the vehicle and tried to get the dogs off of her brother-in-law and was also bitten.
She suffered minor injuries when they were bit by a dog.
Paramedics responded and rushed the injured man to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Animal Control Services removed the dogs from the scene and they remain quarantined.
Meanwhile, the owner of the dogs has been located and is cooperating with the investigation. The nearby home has a sign hanging from a wooden fence that reads ‘Beware of Dogs’.
The family intends to set up a GoFundMe to help them cover funeral costs for Richard Barry.
