Pedestrian Killed on Clairemont Boulevard in Kearny Mesa
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2021) — Richard Nichols, 62, of San Diego, was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday morning while crossing Clairemont Mesa Boulevard at Mercury Street.
The San Diego man was allegedly crossing the busy Kearny Mesa street against a red light, San Diego police said.
Authorities stated Richard Nichols was walking southbound in a crosswalk on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard at the intersection with Mercury Street.
Driver Hits Man in Crosswalk on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard
A westbound Subaru reportedly struck him at the intersection about 5:40 a.m., police said.
Police say the 40-year-old Subaru driver had a green light at the time of the deadly crash.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported Richard Nichols to Sharp Memorial Hospital where he later died at 6:20 a.m. the same day.
The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office identified the pedestrian as Richard Floyd Nichols.
